About the Museum...​Get Ready to Take Off!

The Mid America Museum of Aviation & Transportation (MAMAT) is an independent, educational 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1989 to create a museum in Sioux City to preserve the area’s rich aviation and transportation history.
  • Foster public understanding of all transportation modes
  • Educate present and future generations
  • Provide a Siouxland tourist attraction
  • Build and operate a unique educational museum that will display all phases of aviation and surface transportation… past, present and future
  • To create a museum complex that people from all over the world will travel to see
  • Develop a museum experience that enhances the quality of life for the people of Siouxland as well as for those who visit the museum from other locations

About the Exhibits




Take a step back into history and encounter unique artifacts and exhibits that help tell the exciting story of aviation and transportation in our lives. Explore a wide variety of displays and exhibits of full size aircraft and surface transportation from bicycles to vintage automobiles, Vietnam Huey helicopter, and even a Boeing 727-200! 

We are home to the most complete tribute to the United Airlines Flight 232. 

The Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation preserves and celebrates the rich aviation and transportation history of the tri-state region.

Spend an hour…spend a whole day… the entire family will find something fascinating, entertaining, unique or educational at the Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation!
  • 30,000 sq. feet of displays and exhibits
  • Aircraft from commercial to general, military to sport and home built
  • Surface Transportation from vintage cars and motorcycles to military vehicles and antique road equipment
  • Displays from United Airlines and Braniff Airlines
  • July, 2014 - United Flight 232 exhibit and garden
  • Military artifacts and uniforms
  •  A 1913 Road Grader
  • A partial Boeing 727 fuselage painted in United Airlines colors
  • ’41 Cadillac Fleetwood “60” Special Sunroof Sedan used by President Truman in an inaugural parade in Omaha
  • The largest radial engine ever used on an airplane - the R4360
  • World War II displays including a Link Trainer
  • Scale models and antique toys
  • And much, much more 
The museum is handicap accessible with plenty of bus parking.
