ANNOUNCEMENTS

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SIOUXLAND
New Career Kiosk

Junior League of Siouxland and Fed Ex Express have sponsored a new Career Kiosk.  Two iPads and two stands are available to use and research careers in aviation.  Career oriented websites are on the main page and linked to organizations who support career access in aviation.  Board member Stacie Hays, VP of Enrollment at Morningside University said, "the goal is to help young people, especially young women, to find and explore careers in aviation.  And her son, Jax, programmed the iPad to only access certain websites.  A dedication will be scheduled this fall, and feature Junior League volunteers helping young people use the kiosks."
THANK YOU TO JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SIOUXLAND AND FED EX EXPRESS

MCCLURE FOUNDATION
727 STEM Furnishings

New furnishings for the 727 STEM classroom has been funded by the McClure Foundation and FedEx Express.  The furniture is durable and easy to reconfigure for various classroom setups.  A new TV stand, PA system, podium, and av stand are part of the new setup and will also serve private groups for presentations.
THANK YOU TO MCCLURE FOUNDATION AND FED EX EXPRESS

MRHD
New Gateway Entrance

A new brick entrance on either side of the gateway into the museum parking will make a significant improvement to way finding to the museum.  So often, the museum entrance has been referred to as a blank parking space or institution warehouse.  The new brick, stone, and rock entrance with Ballard lighting will be a significant improvement.  The MISSOURI RIVER HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT funded $50,000 of a $75,000 project with their IMPACT Grant in 2024.  Additional Siouxland specific aviation STEM lessons, accessible marketing signage, roadway clean up were also part of the grant project with the City of Sioux City providing support along the roadway to the museum.
THANK YOU TO MRHD AND CITY OF SIOUX CITY / SIOUX GATEWAY AIRFIELD for the grant and matching in kind work to improve the entrance and accessibility to the air museum.

THANK YOU FOR THE STEM SUMMER CAMPS

ROAD TRIP IOWA features the air museum!

MOVIE NIGHT & STORYTIME

THANK YOU to Kevin Blosch, Executive Director and Kay Goldsmith, Happy Volunteer, for starting two new summer events.  Movie Night was offered during the summer on a Friday night as a free family activity.  Jolly Time Popcorn was a sponsor for the popcorn and many families enjoyed coming out to the 727 and watching movies together.  Kevin loved having new families find the museum through this activity.  "I want to do it again - maybe even a special winter event but for sure next summer.  Having Jolly Time Popcorn support Movie Night was a hit.  I think the Top Gun and Maverick was our most popular night."
Kay Goldsmith, happy volunteer and writing tutor for Morningside University, was responsible for beginning a new Story Time.  While just a few families came to enjoy her reading and the stories, she will continue to look for ways to reach out to families.  Kay is always singing while she rolls around and greets our visitors - thus the "Happy Volunteer" moniker.  "I want to inspire children and parents to read together.  I've always enjoyed books and ready as well as helping college students write better.  The air museum library was a major project I worked on two summers ago, and this reading project is an extension of my interests in helping the air museum attract more visitors."
THANK YOU KEVIN AND KAY FOR THE NEW ACTIVITIES!

Thank Yous
are in order!

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SIOUXLAND - for the new Career Kiosks
FED EX EXPRESS - for the grant to support STEM education continues to match local grants
MCCLURE FOUNDATION - for helping to fund additional furnishings to finish the 727 STEM classroom - matched by FedEx Express funds
MISSOURI RIVER HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT - for the new entrance way to the museum property!  WOW, what a difference it will make when our visitors arrive.
CITY OF SIOUX CITY AND SIOUX GATEAY AIRFIELD - for the matching roadway work for the entrance.  Trees and tall plant growth were removed so the entrance to the museum is more visible.  The city also provided additional way finding signage at major intersections on the way into the museum on Harbor Drive and Al Haynes Drive.
