Siouxland Aviation Festival![]() SIOUXLAND AVIATION FESTIVAL
NOVEMBER 9, 2023 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Northwest Iowa Region of the Governor’s Stem Advisory Council is hosting an Aviation Festival at the Mid America Museum of Aviation & Transportation and 185th Air National Guard Refueling Wing on November 9, 2023, in Sioux City from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Over 200 students have preregistered and are scheduled to attend from 19 different schools. The event is for students in grades 6-12. Lunch will be provided to all who attend the festival. This festival is free to all registrants. Festival Showcase This festival will give students the opportunity to explore STEM careers and opportunities in aviation specifically in the Siouxland area. Presenters will have hands-on STEM activities for students to engage in and explore. Activities will include the real-world of work skills present in the presenters’ careers. At the 18th Air Refueling Wing, attendees will experience the Boom Simulator, manipulate a lifelike patient simulator, vehicle stabilization, extraction demonstration and other activities. At the air museum, attendees will learn about avionics and flight training, hydraulics and the United 232 tragedy, learn how drones investigate crime scenes, and complete a SuperCub preflight as well as other hands-on activities. Location & Directions
For FIRST TIME VISITORS - the air museum is located in Sioux City, Iowa on the north east corner of the Sioux Gateway Airport.
To get to the Mid America Museum of Aviation & Transportation from Interstate I-29 Exit 141:
Turn off I-29 at Exit 141, go west toward the Sioux Gateway Airport. Turn right (north) on Al Haynes Drive. Turn left (west) on Expedition Court to the museum located at 2600 Expedition Court. The air museum will be on your left. It is about a three minute drive once you are off the interstate. Al Haynes Drive doesn't always show up on Google or Apple Maps. Look for small brown Air Museum signs to the museum. |
